Performance evaluation of multi-ONU customers in ethernet passive optical networks

چکیده
Resources of Passive Optical Networks (PONs) can be shared by a diverse spectrum customers such as residential users, business subscribers, mobile network operators, and service providers. A PON customer rent one or several Network Units (ONUs) from an Infrastructure Service Provider. The ONUs (multi-ONU customer) subject to large spatiotemporal traffic variability, resulting in underutilization particular overutilization others. Interleaved Polling with Adaptive Cycle Time Multi-ONU SLAs support (MOS-IPACT) algorithm has been recently proposed promote the redistribution unused bandwidth underloaded multi-ONU customer. This paper introduces analytical model evaluate duration idle periods usage, well performance evaluation MOS-IPACT networks traditional customers. Numerical results show that efficiently distributes excess among without compromising availability.

Energy Efficiency in Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (EPONs): Protocol Design and Performance Evaluation
As concerns about energy consumption grow, the power consumption of the EPON becomes a matter of increasing importance. In respect of energy efficiency, the current standard has no management protocols aiming to reduce power consumption in EPONs. In this paper, we propose an Energy Management Mechanism (EMM) for downlink EPON systems. The proposed mechanism is designed to enhance the standardiz...
متن کاملSimulation and Performance Evaluation of Bandwidth Allocation Algorithms for Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (EPONs)
Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) has been considered for access networks for quite some time to provide high-speed and high-capacity services. As a novel type of network, EPON presents many challenges so one main aim of this paper is to provide a test-bed based on IEEE 802.3ah standards using OPNET Modeler to enable smooth implementation of the wide range of bandwidth allocation algorith...
متن کاملSwitched DWDM Ethernet Passive Optical Networks
The IEEE Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (EPON) standard is a leading Time Division Multiplex (TDM) standard for PONs. The paper investigates the operation of an EPON based system in a Dense Wavelength Division Multiplex (DWDM) environment. It extends the concept of a multi-wavelength system from being merely a stack of independent PONs to that of a stack of a switched set of PONs. The functi...
متن کاملEnabling next Generation Ethernet Access with Ethernet Passive Optical Networks
This article describes Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (EPONs), an emerging local subscriber access architecture that combines low cost point-to-multipoint fiber infrastructure with Ethernet. EPONs are designed to carry Ethernet frames at standard Ethernet rates. EPONs use a single trunk fiber that extends from a central office to a passive optical splitter, which then fans out to multiple op...

As concerns about energy consumption grow, the power consumption of the EPON becomes a matter of increasing importance in the heterogeneous networks. In respect of energy efficiency, the current standard has no management protocols aiming to reduce power consumption in EPONs. To increase energy efficiency while satisfying diverse QoS requirements, the sleep mode operation is introduced in an Op...
